Tap your toes to a demonstration by The Wiarton Steppers square dance club.

Hear interesting and important information on 100 Mile local food from 2 key 50 Mile local speakers with global perspectives at 1pm. and 3pm.

It will be held at Peninsula Shores District School which is the secondary/elementary school in Wiarton, from noon until 4pm. Some proceeds will go to The Salvation Army Local Food Bank (non-perishable food items accepted and appreciated too) and to the PSDS school Arts Department.

Tickets are only $20 for this most unique food feast and are available at Wiarton Video; Marydale’s Family Restaurant in Lion’s Head; Ginger Press in Owen Sound and Fretz’ Valu-mart in Sauble Beach and Meaford Chamber of Commerce.

There is an” Early Bird Prize” Draw for tickets purchased before May 22 as we expect 200 folks to come and our chefs and vendors need to prepare for you!

We challenged our chefs to use NO PLATES so that you can nibble and enjoy the fabulous food and the fun.

Through the SJS Program, employers are reimbursed two dollars an hour for wages for hiring a summer student.

YMCA Summer Job Service Coordinator Michele Leibold says this year they can make that a reality for 810 students thanks to provincial funding; double the amount from two years ago.

Leibold says while some money is already chewed up – there are still some funds to encourage the hiring of a summer student.

She says an eligible student is one between the ages of 15 and 30, returning to school in the fall, and who can legally work in Ontario.

Applications are available through YMCA Community and Employment Services and will be accepted until money runs out.

The SJS program has been running in Bruce and Grey for the last ten years.

The Georgian Bay Folk Society and Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce have signed an agreement that will provide shuttle bus service to and from the site of the Summerfolk Festival this year. Habitat for Humanity will organize shuttle bus service for festival goers coming from communities, campgrounds and vacation spots in Grey, Bruce and Simcoe counties. A specific list of pick up and drop off points is being developed at this time and will be made available later this spring.

This is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce. Proceeds from shuttle ticket sales will go towards local projects such as building new affordable, sustainable homes in Grey Bruce. Prices for shuttle tickets will vary depending on location but will be reasonable.

We are looking for 3 interns from area high schools; these interns will commit to 9 hours per week after school for one semester. Completion of an internship such as this is a valuable addition to your resume and can directly lead to future employment. You should have enthusiasm, a sense of humour, awareness, and excitement at the prospect of a challenge. Some digital media skills are an asset but not required.

Liam gained many new fans with his outstanding performances at Summerfolk. We are eager to hear songs from his excellent debut recording, and new material by this innovative and exciting young songwriter and performer!

Liam has been hard- and soft-rocking in small Canadian bands for years, and has finally begun to release some of his own addictive pop songs under his own moniker, ‘LUM’. The songs incorporate a wide variety of influences, from Bob Dylan to Kanye West. What results is an intelligent mix of bedroom pop and club-banger; where brain meets booty.

You can catch Liam at the Downtown Bookstore (945 2nd Ave. E.) in Owen Sound. Monday, January 4th, 2010. Show is 7:30 – 10:30 pm. Suggested donation is $10. Tickets can be purchased throught the Georgian Bay Folk Society or at the door.

My son recently had a birthday. He had played laser tag before and thought it would be a great way to celebrate his birthday. He invited a couple friends, his sister and one of her good friends. They had a ball. The boys kicked some serious butt the first game, so after that they started mixing things up. There are 7 exciting game scenarios to choose from.

A little about laser tag:
The arena floor houses barriers where players can hide from their opponents. Music, sound effects and simulated fog will fill the air.

Each participant wears a lightweight fibre optic vest and is equipped with a phaser.

The aim is to “tag” the vests of opposing team members with a laser beam as many times as possible during a 10-minute game, while also protecting against opposing shots.

A tagged player is disarmed for five seconds. Sentry pods, which are located in the middle of the arena floor, also fire lasers at players, creating another obstacle.

The phaser emits a radio signal that records each player’s score, based on the number of successful hits, minus tags from an opponent. There are two “home bases” on the arena floor, which can be invaded by opposing teams.

Did I play, not this time… I figured they’d all gang up on the old girl… but be sure that next time I will!
