Larry Mercey Trio Concert
The combination of professional, genuine family entertainment with a decidedly local flavour has an almost sold-out performance later this month at Central Westside United Church in Owen Sound.
Larry Mercey Trio heads the bill with George Lonsbury Jr., and Al Alderson bringing country music originals as well as old favorites. Juanita Wilkins also brings her trio to provide some songs with a folk flavour. Providing some levity in the afternoon of music is Country Clem (Don Vair) a funny man reminiscent of Red Skelton.
The variety concert on November 22, runs from 2:30 p.m. To 4:30 p.m. Followed by a reception when the audience may meet and mingle with the performers and enjoy refreshments in the Friendship Room.
Larry Mercey and his trio bring the country legend’s sound that has been around since 1957 when Larry and his brother Ray pursued a singing career. With brother Lloyd they morphed into The Mercey Brothers in 1961, releasing chart singles and winning Best Country Artist Juno’s from 1969 to 1972 and being inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1989.
Juanita Wilkins is a songwriter and likes to perform music that reflects her southern Ontario roots. Many will have caught her act at Summerfolk this year.
Don Vair’s Country Clem has been enjoyed throughout southern Ontario and he is also an accomplished pianist and guitar player. We are sure his down home humour will be appreciated.
Tickets for the show are almost sold out! News has got around about Larry Mercey bringing his trio and guests to Owen Sound next Sunday (November 22, 2009).
Several bus loads of visitors are coming to the Rhythm & Pews performance at Central Westside United Church and then taking in the Festival of Northern Lights, an award-winning display of coloured lights flanking the banks of Sydenham River in Owen Sound.

Jacob Moon in Concert
He entertained us at Summerfolk this past summer and now he’s back to do it again…
The Georgian Bay Folk Society is proud to present
Jacob Moon at Knox United Church in Owen Sound on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.
Admission: $15.
To reserve or purchase tickets, contact The Georgian Bay Folk Society by calling 519-371-2995 or emailing gbfs@bmts.com
The following is taken from his myspace page:
Jacob Moon comes by it honestly. His mother is a singer, and his father cut his teeth playing 12-string in Kingston Trio-style folk bands of the 60s. Moon himself came to music in his teen years, when he often skipped school to work on lifting guitar solos by greats such as Mark Knopfler and the Edge. Since then, he has been refining his craft and redefining what it means to be a singer, a songwriter, and a guitarist. His high level of skill in each of these areas has meant that he has been able to tour solo most of the time, and his touring has brought him clear across Canada and into the US. His passionate vocals and inspired lyrics are given flight by his total command of the guitar, which at times sounds like an entire orchestra, owing to his use of the JamMan, a live looping device that allows him to more fully realize his onstage ambitions as a solo artist. The opportunity to hear and experience a Jacob Moon show is not to be missed. He has four successful independently produced CDs to his credit, incuding “Eventide”(2005), his latest CD, which has earned him 5 Hamilton Music Awards nominations, top honours at the Unisong Song contest in Hollywood, CA and ‘Folk artist of the year’ by the Toronto Independent Music Awards in Oct ‘06. Social justice is something very close to Jacob’s heart, and so for many years he has been active in raising funds for many worthy organizations through his concerts, including: Compassion Canada, International Justice Mission, ADRA, Wesley Urban Ministries, and many private schools across Canada.
