Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce Shuttle Bus

This year you wont’ have to drive to Summerfolk. Yup, that’s right. Habitat for Humanity is supplying a shuttle bus to Summerfolk.

The Georgian Bay Folk Society and Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce have signed an agreement that will provide shuttle bus service to and from the site of the Summerfolk Festival this year. Habitat for Humanity will organize shuttle bus service for festival goers coming from communities, campgrounds and vacation spots in Grey, Bruce and Simcoe counties. A specific list of pick up and drop off points is being developed at this time and will be made available later this spring.

This is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce. Proceeds from shuttle ticket sales will go towards local projects such as building new affordable, sustainable homes in Grey Bruce. Prices for shuttle tickets will vary depending on location but will be reasonable.

What a great idea… and it’s a great way to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity too! Don’t miss the bus…

Lazer Runner Owen Sound

There’s a great new place in Owen Sound to have some fun. You can get a group of friends together and go play laser tag at LaZer Runner Owen Sound. Doesn’t matter if you’re old or young… incredibly co-ordinated or a sports ninja… it’s fun for everyone, not matter what age or agility level.

My son recently had a birthday. He had played laser tag before and thought it would be a great way to celebrate his birthday. He invited a couple friends, his sister and one of her good friends. They had a ball. The boys kicked some serious butt the first game, so after that they started mixing things up. There are 7 exciting game scenarios to choose from.

A little about laser tag:
The arena floor houses barriers where players can hide from their opponents. Music, sound effects and simulated fog will fill the air.

Each participant wears a lightweight fibre optic vest and is equipped with a phaser.

The aim is to “tag” the vests of opposing team members with a laser beam as many times as possible during a 10-minute game, while also protecting against opposing shots.

A tagged player is disarmed for five seconds. Sentry pods, which are located in the middle of the arena floor, also fire lasers at players, creating another obstacle.

The phaser emits a radio signal that records each player’s score, based on the number of successful hits, minus tags from an opponent. There are two “home bases” on the arena floor, which can be invaded by opposing teams.

Did I play, not this time… I figured they’d all gang up on the old girl… but be sure that next time I will!

LaZer Runner Owen Sound is located 1125 8th Street East, Owen Sound (in front of The Brick).

Hours: Wednesday – Friday 3:30 pm – 9:00 pm; Saturday 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm; Sunday 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm; Snow and PD days 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Call first to be sure of the hours. 226-664-0119.

Thanks Norm! The kids had a fantastic time.

A Natural Image Photography

Christie Newton-Schmidt grew up in Grey-Bruce with a camera in her hand. After high-school she headed to Fanshawe College in London, Ontario to study photography. Besides being a wife and mother of three, Christie operates a daycare and is a professional photographer as well. Wow, what a busy lady!

A Natural Image Photography is Christie’s photography business. She came to us wanting to build a web-site that would showcase her work to clients and potential clients. Christie wanted her clients to be able to order their photos online. Together we’ve built her a site that does just that, plus she can blog when she has the time, has galleries, testimonials, news, how to order photos and a page telling you all about herself. We even did a short video that is posted on her homepage… so you can meet her, before you call to book that photo session.

Christie worked with us to learn how to update her site with photos and a blog. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out the video, please do so. She’s a great lady and it was nice to be able to work with her.

You can reach Christie in Hanover, Ontario by calling 519-364-9996 or by email at anaturalimage@wightman.ca

ATP for Hockey

Advanced Training Program for Hockey or ATP, is a week long hockey camp in Owen Sound, Ontario. It’s creators, Rob and Audrey Lee have developed this program. Each summer it’s popularity grows.

One of the main goals of the camp is to provide each player with the instruction necessary to improve their skills and success throughout the hockey season. They give comprehensive on and off ice instruction, skills training, nutrition info and lots of fun.

The Lees came to us wanting a web site that would allow them to update blog and photos daily during their camp. It is a great site that shows the enthusiasm of the kids who take their camp, the instructors and their qualifications, camp features and contact information. You can download registration forms and their handbook. It’s a great way to know what is happening at camp, what to expect and what kind of schedule is kept… one stop shopping so to speak.

Spaces in the camp fill up fast so, check back in the summer for camp dates and information.

The site looks fabulous. The great photography and blog updates are done by Audrey. They hope to incorporate some video next year. Good luck with next year’s camp. It was great to work with you.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores

Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce operates two ReStores, one in Hanover, the other Owen Sound. There is more to the ReStore than you might think…

They came to us to build a website for them so that they could let people know what they have to offer. They chose a Dynamic CMS site that tells about ReStore, where they are located and how to volunteer or donate. Did you know that they are now with the WEEE program?… what the heck is that?.. it’s the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Program. That means it gives you a place to take your broken, unwanted or unused computers, monitors, fax machines, tv’s, printers, etc. to them to be recycled rather than going to a landfill.

Their website is updated regularly (we trained them to do all their own updates) showing what’s going on in both the Hanover and Owen Sound stores. Currently they both have a food drive on to help the local Salvation Army. Also in December is their Customer Appreciation Day and a chance to win a 10th Anniversary Snowflake Bear.

Check the site regularly for the latest deals on furniture and/or renovating products. You can find them at www.ReStoresGreyBruce.com.

The website is easy to navigate, informative and looks great. It was great getting to know some of the staff and volunteers.

Local author Rebekkah Adams

Rebekkah Adams is a writer from Owen Sound, Ontario who has written and published a variety of works including short fiction, poems and journalism pieces. Recently Rebekkah celebrated the launch of her latest book “Front Porch Mannequins”.

Rebekkah came to us wanting a blog style website to tell people about her books and articles. She wanted links to her publishers and the writer’s groups she’s a member of. The site was fun to work on, giving a description of her books and publishing history. I personally really enjoy her writing style and look forward to the publication of her new book, The Truth About Why I Lie. (You can even read and download an excerpt on her site.) Enjoy!

Rebekkah is an Expressive Arts and Play Therapist, who holds diplomas and certificates in Police Sciences, Non-Profit Manadement and Human Resources. Along with her work at Nemesis Group Services, she is an occasional teacher at Georgian College.

The Patch, Sauble Beach

This year the fellas at the Patch decided to update the look of their website and email newsletter. They still have Quality Clothing and Great Prices and now a fresh new look to keep folks coming back.

What we did…
We came up with a colour scheme that worked for the various pages for clothing and accessory groups.
Home, Mens, Womens, Boys, Girls, Baby, etc. It’s easy to become a member at the Patch. Once signed up you’ll receive periodic email newsletters advising you of what’s going on at the Patch. Sales, promotions, the Annual Bag Sale which is running now. And yes, we created a page detailing the Bag Sale. The various pages have a selection of available clothing in various styles. Now you know ahead of time what great styles and deals you can look forward to when you hit the beach for a little shopping.

The site and newsletter look great guys! It’s been a pleasure working with you.

Lotus Hair and Body Studio of Owen Sound

The ladies at Lotus Hair and Body Studio in Owen Sound wanted to have a web presence. They hired us to design and build their web site. Here’s what we did…

We secured the domain name lotushairandbody.com. We looked through a selection of templates for their dynamic website and chose one that we felt would give them a look and feel that suited their logo and style.

That done, we changed and tweeked the design of the template with their colours and talked with them about what it was they wanted to have on their website. Once we got all the information on hand (brochures, logo, photos, fonts, copy etc.) the work began.

The home page has a slide show featuring various shots of the shop and some of the services that are offered. You can navigate easily to anywhere on the site from the home page. Navigation continues with ease as you go from page to page to see products, services, gift certificates and prices, etc.

Pages include: Salon Serives, Spa, Gift Certificates, Products, Men’s, Packages and the standard Home, About and Contact.

There is room for a blog on the site that could be used to let customers know about upcoming events and specials, what’s new in the industry, products, services, techniques, or whatever they want to blog about…

All you need to look and feel great in one great shop! Your site looks great ladies and it was a pleasure working with you.

The Ontario Co-operative Association

Community Power 2009 took place in Toronto in November. It was the first year for this huge event brought to us by OSEA. People from all sectors and organizations from far and wide attended. The conference wasn’t open to just the big corporations… it was open for anyone and everyone. It covered everything from environmentally conscious financial institutions to the feed-in tariffs. There were talks, strategic planning and a trade show…

OSEA inspires and enables the people of Ontario to improve their environment, their economy and their health by producing clean, renewable energy in their homes and in their communities. The association is a member-based, non-profit organization representing 140 groups that make up and support the Community Power sector.

Ryan Wiseman attended and had the opportunity to talk with Jen Heneberry of the Ontario Co-operative Association.
